Job Summary
Under general supervision,
formulates and tests new ink systems; resolves problems
with existing systems; modify existing systems to
efficiently meet customer needs; knows and regularly
applies the fundamental concepts, practices and
procedures of particular field of specialization,
utilizing some originality and ingenuity. Meets customer
needs to the best of the incumbents ability, in line with
SIEGWERKs philosophy that the customer is the #1
priority. Adheres to all departmental/company policies
and standards to include (but not limited to): (1)
maintains a neat, clean and safe work area; (2) maintains
regular and consistent attendance; and (3) maintains
positive working relationships. Job
Responsibilities Formulates new ink
systems for new and/or existing accounts. Ensures that
customer requirements or specifications are met. Responds to and/or
resolves customers' specification problems, i.e., the ink
blocked on the roll or it did not adhere properly to the
stock, etc. Modifies existing
ink systems to meet new customer requirements, i.e.,
Colortherm Ink-resistant ink that needs adhesion to a
certain stock. Conducts
resin/pigment evaluations, as needed to meet customers'
specifications, provide cost savings, etc. Interprets data
and results; provides clear documentation, written
reports, etc., enters data into computer. Performs varied,
simple to moderately complex work under general
supervision with limited responsibility. Other duties as assigned. Education
and Experience Bachelors degree in Chemistry
with a minimum of two years related experience; or entry
level for Masters Degree education; additional
related education preferred. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities To
perform this job successfully, the incumbent must possess
the following skills, knowledge, and abilities: Knowledge of
related raw materials, ink systems, production processes,
available resources & equipment, preferred. Ability to read,
analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical
journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from
customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the
business community. Ability to write speeches and
articles for publication that conform to prescribed style
and format. Ability to apply
advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents,
logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as
frequency distribution, determination of test reliability
and validity, analysis. Ability to define
problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid
conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of
technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form
and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Basic computer
skills desired: Microsoft Word/Excel and E-mail. All
lab equipment, including pH meter, heat sealer, bond
tester, oven, balance, glossmeter, Geiger proofer,
computer, calculator, copy machine, mixer, shaker,
K-Coater, slide angle, C.O.F. tester, & Corona
treater. May be exposed to fumes, pigment dust,
alcohol, resins and leaded ink. Special Equipment/Working Condition
