Qualifications

Ph.D. in chemistry, materials science, or chemical engineering with 1-3 years of independent research experience is required. BASF recognize Institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent. In-depth knowledge and proven track record in inorganic synthesis, solid-state chemistry, heterogeneous catalysis, and reactor technologies are needed. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential to work in a team environment and to collaborate with researchers in other business groups. Must have well developed oral and written communication skills. The ability to write clear and concise reports and give professional presentations is necessary.

The researcher is responsible for the hands on discovery and development of novel materials leading to new catalyst components required by a number of high temperature catalyst applications such as catalytic reduction of pollutant emissions from both mobile and stationary sources. The research is focused on bench-scale development of advanced inorganic oxides of base metals and supported precious metals. Another major component of the research is to design and operate novel lab reactor and to develop innovative catalyst evaluation methodologies. Material characterization, surface chemistry understanding, and reaction kinetics modeling will be also heavily involved.
