Description
DescriptionAre you passionate about protecting people's health and ensuring safety in the workplace? At ICF, we partner with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to deliver expert industrial hygiene and environmental health consulting services. We're looking for an experienced occupational health and safety professional with experience in environmental/waste management to join our team, bringing deep regulatory knowledge and a commitment to excellence. The successful candidate will play a critical role in helping our client maintain compliance, mitigate risks, and foster a safe work environment at the EPA Region 9 laboratory facilities.
What You'll Do:
- Regulatory Compliance Consulting:
- Provide expert guidance on OSHA, RCRA, and state (Oregon and California) regulations related to hazardous materials and workplace safety.
- Contribute to the development and update of shared Region 9/ORD chemical hygiene plans to align with current regulations and best practices.
- Risk Assessments and Monitoring:
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and hazard evaluations for chemical exposures, noise, ventilation, ergonomics, and other occupational health risks.
- Perform both qualitative and quantitative exposure assessments and recommend effective control measures.
- Program Development and Implementation:
- Develop and implement industrial hygiene programs and policies tailored to client needs.
- Design and execute exposure monitoring plans, including air sampling and noise surveys, delivering detailed reports and actionable recommendations.
- Best Practices and Process Improvement:
- Advise clients on best practices for meeting regulatory requirements, focusing on Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), waste streams, and facilities planning.
- Identify and drive process improvements to enhance safety and compliance.
- Inspections and Corrective Actions:
- Conduct thorough inspections and audits of client workplaces to identify potential health and environmental hazards and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Respond to inspection findings and develop comprehensive corrective action plans.
- System Design and Implementation:
- Assist in the design and implementation of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and Integrated Quality Management Systems (IQMS) for health and safety functions and sample disposal tracking.
- Annual Reviews and Inspections:
- Conduct annual reviews of health and safety (H&S) and environmental management (EM) systems.
- Perform lab inspections and develop responses to associated findings, driving continuous improvement in safety practices.
- Training and Education:
- Develop and deliver training programs on industrial hygiene, chemical safety, and emergency response.
- Provide expert guidance and support on the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other safety measures.
- Client Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients to understand their needs and deliver high-quality service.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients regarding industrial hygiene and safety issues.
Additional Information:
- Job location is Corvallis, Oregon. This is a hybrid role (remote/onsite) with at least two days per week required at the job location.
- Travel to various client sites is required. Frequent travel to Hayward, California (monthly or quarterly) is anticipated.
- Participation in professional development and continuing education opportunities is encouraged to maintain current knowledge and certifications.
What you must have:
- Bachelor of Science (BS) in Safety Management, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Management, Toxicology, or related field is required.
- 10+ years of combined experience in any of the following areas:
- Implementation of OSHA/RCRA/state regulations and standards, particularly in an analytical laboratory setting or similar environment where chemicals are commonly used.
- Design and implementation of LIMS and IQMS.
- Up to three years of hands on environmental analytical chemistry and laboratory experience can be included in the total years of experience.
- 1+ year experience in data management and report preparation.
- Ability to manage multiple clients and projects simultaneously.
- Must be authorized to work in the US.
- MUST BE ABLE TO PASS an EPA background check to obtain access to US federal property.
Physical Requirements:
- Work in diverse client settings, including laboratories, Superfund sites, and other environments where chemicals are used.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to strict safety protocols.
- Conduct site inspections and use monitoring equipment.
- Must be able to perform physical tasks including but not limited to climbing ladders, working outdoors, and occasionally lifting equipment and materials up to 40 pounds.
- Stand and walk for extended periods during inspections and audits.
What we'd like you to have:
- Professional certifications in relevant fields, such as OSHA compliance, RCRA waste management, or inspections are preferred.
- 40-hour OSHA/EPA HAZWOPER training is preferred.
- Proven ability to develop and deliver effective training programs.

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:
$70,700.00 - $120,190.00
