Physical Therapist Assistant Instructor


Position Overview: Concordia University, St. Paul, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant or associate professor of physical therapy. This position is a 12-month, full-time (1.0 FTE) academic appointment. The Department of Physical Therapy is housed within the College of Health & Science, also home to diagnostic medical sonography associate programs and undergraduate programs in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, public health, and healthcare administration. The university also provides academic offerings within nursing, kinesiology, and orthotics and prosthetics, providing ample interprofessional collaboration opportunities. 

Concordia University, St. Paul, is an innovative institution that continues to grow despite declining trends in higher education. Located in Minnesota’s capital city, CSP is home to over 1,700 traditional undergraduate students on campus, over 1,300 online undergraduates, and over 2,700 graduate students. Approximately 30% of those students are seeking programs within the health sciences. One of the main areas of focus for the institution's growth is the health sciences, as indicated by the addition of over 10 new programs in the last seven years. 

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis starting in mid-June, with a desired start date in August 2024, pending candidate availability.

Primary responsibilities: Teaching and scholarship in areas of expertise across the entry-level DPT program.  Additional responsibilities include academic and research advising and service to the program, university, and community.  


Desired areas of expertise: Musculoskeletal, medical screening, and biomechanics


Required qualifications, skills and accomplishments:

  • Degree in Physical Therapy - MPT/MSPT or DPT (preferred), with a willingness to pursue a terminal degree (PhD, EdD, DHS).
  • Current or eligible for Minnesota physical therapy licensure.
  • Experience as a successful academic and/or clinical instructor.
  • Evidence of an ongoing or developing scholarly agenda.
  • A record of involvement within the professional community.
  • Ability to function well within a collegial, collaborative work environment.
  • A commitment to Christian higher education; mission of the DPT program; mission of the University; and the Lutheran identity of the university.


Preferred Qualfications:

  • Academic doctoral degree or willingness to pursue one
  • A minimum of 5 years of clinical experience
  • A minimum of 3 years teaching experience within an academic setting
