Job Summary:
The University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus, School of Dental Medicine welcomes applications from exceptional candidates with excellence in dental specialty practice for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position (Open Rank) with demonstrated research emphasis in Biomaterials Science and Engineering with oral and/or craniofacial biology. Successful candidates will an established record of publications, research expertise, and a record of relevant externally funded research. Candidates will demonstrate - a commitment to using basic research to solve oral health problems in areas such as but not limited to restorative/regenerative dental materials, biosensors and bioengineered tissue/material interactions.
Initial rank is based upon knowledge, achievement, and experience, and with the opportunity for academic promotion based upon demonstrated, ongoing excellence. This new position will expand a collegial, research-intensive department with a current focus on craniofacial developmental biology, precision biomaterials, research endeavors leading to technology development and cancer biology. Our faculty often work in a highly interdisciplinary manner with other schools and programs across the CU Anschutz and CU Boulder campuses. Examples of work performed:
- Research /scholarship responsibilities offer an opportunity to collaborate on and/or initiate programmatic inquiry and scholarship in alignment with SDM mission and vision. Faculty are expected to establish an extramurally funded research program.
- Writing and submitting grant applications regularly for new research as Principal Investigator (PI) and/or Co-PI
- Securing and maintaining an externally funded research program related to the topics above.
- Contributing to scholarly literature via peer-reviewed publications and presentations
- Participating in collaborative research projects with SDM faculty members and faculty within the CU system
- Conducting research that aligns with the strategic mission and current initiatives from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research
- Participating in faculty grant review/feedback meetings
- Serving as an active and visible member of the American Association for Dental, Oral and Craniofacial Research and/or other relevant professional organizations
- Serving as a research mentor for trainees including dental and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and/or residents
- Teaching responsibilities for faculty in the research track are focused on collaboratively building and/or participating in dental student and graduate student teaching, in alignment with mission and strategic plan of the SDM.
- Service responsibilities include service to the assigned program, the school, and with other responsibilities as negotiated.
The salary range (or hiring range) has been established at:
- Assistant Professor - $120,000 - $145,000
- Associate Professor - $145,000 - $175,000
- Professor - $175,000 - $225,000
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Minimum Qualifications
Assistant Professor
- PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering or a closely related materials science discipline
- Applicants must have a clinical, scholarly, and/or academic record consistent with each appointment level in the School of Dental Medicine
- A demonstrated and considerable record of peer reviewed publications
Associate Professor:
- PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering or a closely related materials science discipline
- Applicants must have a clinical, scholarly, and/or academic record consistent with each appointment level in the School of Dental Medicine
- A demonstrated and considerable record of peer reviewed publications
- An established, federal, funded research program
Professor
- PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering or a closely related materials science discipline

Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D., DDS, DDS/Ph.D., BDS/Ph.D. or equivalent degree and postdoctoral training in biological science or bioengineering, with a research focus in oral and/or craniofacial research
- Demonstrated record of an independent research program and success in securing federal funding supporting, preferably from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research
- Publications in peer-reviewed journals demonstrating their specialty area
- Demonstrated history of teaching, mentorship and training of research trainees
- Commitment to excellence, discovery, service, and being on the path to being outstanding in their field of expertise and share an interest in fulfilling the common goals of the School of Dental Medicine at the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus and the university as a whole
