Description

This is a Research Scientist/Engineer position within the CICOES/NOAA-PMEL Atmospheric Chemistry Group.  The position is located on the NOAA campus at Sand Point.  The incumbent will conduct research on atmospheric aerosols and their effects on clouds, climate, and air quality in support of NOAA’s strategy to provide a better understanding of the complex systems that support our planet.

The incumbent will conduct research from ships, from land and from the laboratories at PMEL and develop new instrument payloads for UASs.  40%

The incumbent will write proposals, analyze data, write and publish manuscripts, present research results at scientific meetings and for NOAA administrators. 50%

The incumbent will supervise research technicians, manage budgets, and participate in outreach activities. 10%



Requirements

Minimum/Required Qualifications:
  • PhD Degree in Atmospheric Sciences, Oceanography, Chemistry or Environmental Science

  • Equivalent experience can not be substituted for degree requirement

  • Two or more years of professional research experience

Desired Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with trace gas and aerosol instrumentation.
  • A proven track record of publishing research in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Demonstrated ability to make progress on challenging research questions with only modest external direction.
  • Demonstrated ability and interest to learn and/or apply programming languages, such as IGOR, Python, MATLAB, and LabVIEW. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate complex ideas to colleagues clearly.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, interacting cooperatively with people from diverse backgrounds and academic levels.
