Position Description:
The primary purpose of this position is to provide professional industrial hygiene scientific support and expertise for designing and conducting research focused on identifying, analyzing, and reporting on emerging industrial hygiene health issues and problems as it relates to occupational safety and health, as well as providing expert advice to agency installations nationwide.
The Research Industrial Hygienist will carry out the duties and responsibilities outlined below:

Salary:
$94,373 - $122,683 per year

Supervisory position: Yes: This position has 20% supervisory duties, candidates must also have demonstrated or shown the potential to develop the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities. Applicants should describe any previous experience or responsibilities which could be used in relation to the supervisory requirements of this position.
Since this is a research position, an evaluation of the scientific contributions, recognition and professional standing of the researcher as they relate to the position being filled will be made to determine qualifications. Candidates should include all pertinent information regarding their research accomplishments, e.g. list of publications and presentations.
Basic Qualifications:
- A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; or
- A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene; or
- Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (external link) (ABIH).
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 level of difficulty and responsibility in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.
Specialized experience is experience at or equivalent to which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience in supervising, leading, designing and conducting research studies related to industrial hygiene scientific studies of various emerging public health issues and problems as they relate to environmental conditions that adversely affect the health and safety of people in the workplace.
Education completed in colleges or universities outside the United States may be used to meet the education requirements. You must provide acceptable documentation that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States. Travel Required
Occasional travel - Up to 10% domestic travel may be required for this position.
