Position Highlights
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry (CBC) at the University of Arizona invites applications for a full-time Career Track Assistant or Associate Professor of Practice with expertise in teaching general and inorganic chemistry. Primary responsibilities include teaching in the general and inorganic chemistry lecture and laboratories and curriculum. Additional courses and course management activities may also be assigned as the need arises. Contributions of service and outreach will be expected. This is an academic year (9-month) position at 1.0 FTE starting in Fall 2026. We seek candidates with a background in chemistry. Candidates must be committed to excellence in teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate level and to fostering a welcoming environment. Individuals who apply should be committed to working with faculty members and students to advance the educational mission of the department. We seek individuals who bring enthusiasm, leadership capability, and a deep commitment to academic excellence. This career-track appointment is not eligible for tenure. We will give priority to applications received by March 29, 2026.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Career-track positions are typically 80% teaching and 20% service/outreach.
- Teach in-person and/or online courses in Inorganic and General Chemistry.
- Participate in course development and evidence-based pedagogy.
- Use active-learning methodologies in the classroom and engage online students using interactive strategies and platforms.
- Maintain regularly scheduled office hours in person and/or by video conferencing.
- Provide additional instructional support as needed.
- Supervise instructional teams of graduate and undergraduate learning assistants to promote student engagement, assessment, and understanding.
- Work with UArizona’s learning-management system Brightspace for course delivery.
- Attend and constructively contribute to pertinent program staff and faculty meetings.
- Contribute to governance through service and/or outreach at the department and college level.
- Demonstrate excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level.
- Demonstrate organizational skills, including the ability to plan, prioritize and successfully manage deadlines.
- Effectively communicate with individuals at all organizational levels.
- Effectively support students, including those in distress.
- Demonstrate understanding and skill in teaching approaches that promote success for students from various backgrounds.
- Data management skills to track student progress and evaluation.
- Management and coordination of laboratory teaching assistants (TAs).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to work with a variety of student populations, stakeholders, and colleagues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Implementation and development chemistry laboratory and lecture curriculum.
- Ability to manage large enrollment courses.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, or a closely related field.
- Scientific experience in areas of chemistry essential to the teaching of undergraduate general chemistry and inorganic chemistry courses.
- Three years of university/college teaching experience (tutoring alone does not qualify).
For Associate Professor of Practice (in addition to the qualifications listed above):
- Three years of university/college teaching experience is required as an instructor of record in large enrollment courses.
- A demonstration of continued commitment to evidence-based teaching practices based on evaluations and/or scholarly activities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three years of classroom teaching experience at the university/college level as the instructor of record
- Course/curriculum development
- Experience managing teaching assistants (TAs)
- Proficiency in laboratory safety compliance
