- Post-Doctoral Associate in Hydrogen/Deuterium Exchange Mass Spectrometry
Description
The Proteomics Group at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard is a world-renowned leader in biological mass spectrometry. We are currently seeking a highly motivated Post-Doctoral Associate to spearhead cutting-edge projects in nanoflow hydrogen/deuterium exchange-mass spectrometry (nHDX-MS). This role offers a unique opportunity to lead high-impact collaborative research at the intersection of cancer biology, epigenetics, and chemical biology. You will work alongside a premier network of scientists from Broad, MIT, Harvard, and Harvard-affiliated hospitals, contributing to a global standard in MS-based proteomics. Our group has a strong track record of high-impact research, including recent publications: Raval et al., MCP 2026; Jain et al., Science 2026; Moroco et al., MCP 2025; Waterbury et al., Mol Cell 2024.
The successful candidate will drive innovation across the following areas of interest:
- Apply automated nHDX-MS workflows to characterize protein-ligand and protein-protein interactions, including epitope mapping.
- Identify binding sites for drugs and metabolites within complex mixtures.
- Develop methods for the successful interrogation of challenging targets, including membrane proteins, transcription factors, and large macromolecular assemblies.
- Advance the analytical capabilities of nHDX-MS by leveraging Electron Transfer Dissociation (ETD) to enable single-residue resolution.
Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. in analytical chemistry, chemical biology, biochemistry or a closely related field; a fundamental understanding of molecular biology is highly desired.
- A proven track record of scientific excellence, evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Meticulous attention to detail, strong critical thinking abilities and exceptional organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Hands-on skills and knowledge in one or more of the following areas will be considered an advantage:
- HDX-MS: Hands-on experience in sample preparation, data generation, and data interpretation
- Proteomics: Expertise in state-of-the-art MS-based proteomics, including XL-MS or FPOP
- Proficiency with LEAP or similar liquid handling automation platforms
- Experience analyzing large-scale datasets; proficiency in programming (R or Python)
The Broad Institute is a world-leading non-profit research organization dedicated to realizing the promise of the post-genomic era for human benefit. Located in Cambridge, MA with strong ties to MIT, Harvard, and world class Boston hospitals, the Broad Institute brings together scientists of diverse backgrounds to solve critical problems in biology and medicine in an interdisciplinary manner. The Broad Institute, and the embedded proteomics group (www.broadinstitute.org/proteomics), have an outstanding track-record in training the next generation of research scientists and in developing and applying proteomic technologies critical to address important questions in biology and medicine. We collaborate with top-level researchers throughout the world, and results of these studies and our technology developments are published in top-tier journals. The successful candidate should have both the ability and desire to function in such an open, interdisciplinary, and highly collaborative environment.
