Description
The Ecotoxicology and Risk Assessment Laboratory at the School of Fisheries, Aquaculture, and Aquatic Sciences of Auburn University has an open postdoctoral position in environmental chemistry and toxicology. The Lab has several ongoing research projects on pesticides, PFAS, and microplastics that need support of chemical analysis. In addition, opportunities to engage in education, outreach, and services are also available. Candidates with a PhD in chemistry or environmental toxicology that have experience in environmental and analytical chemistry, especially organic chemistry, are encouraged to apply. The analytical instrumentation the Lab has includes an ICP-MS, an LC-MS/MS, a FTIR-Microscope, an IC, and a TOC analyzer. The candidate must be eligible to work in the USA and is expected to work with graduate students that need chemical analysis support.
Requirements
Minimum Qualification: The successful candidate should have:
A PhD degree in chemistry, environmental toxicology, or a related field
Technical experience using instrumentation like ICP-MS, GC-MS, LC-MS, FTIR-microscope, IC, TOC analyzer, qPCR, as well as analyte extraction and preparation for environmental matrices (soil, water, and/or biota) to study the fate and effects of pollutants in the environment
Good laboratory practice, communication skills, writing manuscripts for publication, and willingness to work with students and eventually faculty at other departments of Auburn University
Publication of dissertation and previous research work
Desired Qualifications:
Experience in the analysis of organic pollutants (e.g., PFAS, herbicides) and microplastics in environmental samples with different matrixes as well as common water quality parameters
Familiar with standard analytical methods, such as EPA methods including QA/QC procedures
Experience in instrument maintenance and troubleshooting as well as the organization of an analytical lab
Publication in environmental chemistry and toxicology work
