Description
The Nanomaterials and Energy Systems Laboratory (NESL) at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, SMU, is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher with strong interests in energy storage systems and materials science. A solid hands-on experimental foundation, coupled with strong written and verbal communication skills, is essential for active participation in the laboratory’s research activities.
Key responsibilities:
Design, synthesize, and characterize advanced materials for next-generation battery systems.
Develop and optimize Li-gas battery chemistries (Li-O2, Li-air).
Formulate and evaluate liquid and solid-state electrolytes with enhanced conductivity, stability, and safety.
Conduct electrochemical testing (cycling, rate capability, gas evolution studies).
Requirements
Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Electrochemistry, or a closely related field.
Demonstrated experience in synthesis and characterization of cathode materials, preferably on high-entropy material (HEM) catalysts.
Demonstrated experience in electrolyte formulation (polymer, ceramic, or hybrid systems).
Strong understanding of electrochemical characterization methods such as CV, EIS, LSV, chronoamperometry.
Strong experience in structural characterization using techniques such as XRD, SEM, TEM, Raman, and the related analytical tools.
Experience with solid-state ion conductors, lithium metal interfaces, or gas-phase electrochemistry preferred.
Evidence of scholarly productivity, including peer-reviewed publications in reputable journals.
Strong data analysis skills and familiarity with relevant software (OriginPro or similar tools).
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
