Description
At Insmed, every moment and every patient counts - and so does every person who joins in. As a global biopharmaceutical company dedicated to transforming the lives of patients with serious and rare diseases, you'll be part of a community that prioritizes the human experience, celebrates curiosity, and values every person's contributions to meaningful progress. That commitment has earned us recognition as Science magazine's No. 1 Top Employer for five consecutive years, certification as a Great Place to Work® in the U.S., and a place on The Sunday Times Best Places to Work list in the UK.For patients, for each other, and for the future of science, we're in. Are you?
About the Role:
We're looking for a highly motivated and experienced bioanalytical scientist to help us expand what's possible for patients with serious diseases. Reporting to the Associate Principal Scientist, the Senior Scientist, Mass Spec will employ their broad knowledge of mass spectrometry for applications ranging from discovery to early-stage development. This individual will also participate in unbiased proteomic biomarker discovery experiments (e.g., LFQ, TMT) in various biological matrices and independently develop targeted assays for protein biomarker quantitation (e.g., LC-MS/MS, MSD, ELISA) to empower drug development.
Additionally, the Senior Scientist will assist in characterizing protein therapeutics by mass spectrometry (e.g., peptide mapping, intact, native) for early phase pipeline advancement. Additional future opportunities to expand existing capabilities include metabolomics, lipidomics, CE-MS, CDMS, and other bioanalytical technologies (e.g., SPR, Jess, BLI) are anticipated.
What You'll Do:
In this role, you'll have the opportunity to Independently develop LC-MS/MS (i.e., Sciex 7500+) assays for protein target quantitation by robust sample preparation (i.e., protein extraction, proteolysis, etc.), assignment of appropriate signature peptide, establishment of analytical figures-of-merit (i.e., linearity, sensitivity, etc.), and method qualification in representative biological matrices. You'll also:
- Perform unbiased proteomic experiments for biomarker discovery by employing proteomic workflows, including appropriate experimental design, reproducible sample preparation, high resolution mass spectrometry data acquisition (Thermo Astral, Eclipse, Excedion), bioinformatic data analysis (i.e., ProteomeDiscoverer, MaxQuant, PEAKS, etc.), and results interpretation.
- Expand upon current sample preparation workflows to include affinity-enrichment and offline fractionation approaches for identification and characterization of low-abundance protein analytes.
- Identify and/or employ complementary bioanalytical techniques (e.g., ELISA, MSD, Western-blot) for better understanding of biological results while working closely with internal SMEs for executing experiments of most value.
- Contribute to the routine analysis of therapeutic protein candidates, including peptide mapping, intact/native protein analysis, data acquisition and reporting to provide analytical support of various research projects.
- Assist the group in lab maintenance and housecleaning, ensuring optimum instrument operation and readiness (i.e., calibration, QA/QC), stocking of reagents/supplies/chemicals, proper waste disposal, sample inventory and CTU management, and strict adherence to safety protocols.
Who You Are:
You have at least a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry or a related scientific discipline and a strong focus on proteomic analysis using HRMS and QQQ mass spectrometry platforms. Additionally, you have:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in applying advanced mass spectrometry techniques for both unbiased protein biomarker discovery and targeted protein quantitation by LC-MS/MS.
- Experience with broad sample preparation methodologies, automation, and instrumentation (Thermo, Sciex).
- Ability to create and perform SRM/MRM experiments on QQQ instruments.
- Experience with LC-MS operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Strong knowledge of ligand-binding assay development, application, and translation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong work ethic, self-motivation, and a collaborative spirit.
- Experience with documentation of scientific data, scientific writing, and presentation of research findings.
- Strict adherence to environmental, health, and safety guidelines.
Nice to have (but not required):
- Strong knowledge of chromatographic separation (e.g., SEC, SCX, HpH RP) highly desired.
- Knowledge of electrophoretic (e.g., CE, SDS-PAGE, IEF) and biophysical interaction (e.g., SPR, BLI) a plus.
- Experience with metabolomic and lipidomic analysis a plus.
- Experience with Top-down and native MS a plus.
Where You'll Work
This role is based out of our Bridgewater, NJ office and requires full-time, in-person presence to support hands-on collaboration, access specialized equipment, and/or operational needs.
Travel Requirements
