Carson-Newman University is a Christian, liberal arts-based University built upon the Lordship of Jesus Christ as evidenced historically and revealed in the Scriptures. Our mission as Christian educators is to help our students reach their full potential as educated citizens and worldwide servant leaders. 

The position is a full-time, tenure-track position to begin August 2026. The candidate will be expected to teach (12 hours per semester on campus) organic chemistry along with lab, biochemistry along with lab, and general chemistry or non-majors courses as needed. In addition, the optimal candidate will develop an ongoing undergraduate research program in biochemistry or bio-organic chemistry that is compatible with our existing biochemical and analytical research programs. The candidate will also advise and mentor students and serve on university committees. The ideal candidate for this tenure-track position will have a passion for teaching, a strong commitment to scholarly activities including guiding research, and a desire to contribute to the academic and professional development of the students.

• To conduct the appropriate level of research and/or attend conferences to stay current in field of expertise. 

Requirements

Education:  Ph.D. in chemistry; additional post-doctoral or industrial experience is desired. Preference will be given to candidates with research interests in biochemical or bio-organic chemistry; applicants with research interests bridging inorganic, organic and/or biochemistry are especially encouraged to apply. Candidates with experience or interest in innovative pedagogy will be viewed positively.

Experience:   Preferably at least 1 year of teaching experience in higher education

Required Skills:  Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; advanced organizational skills; ability to establish and maintain working relationships with all stakeholders. Research skills in organic and/or biochemistry.
