Requirements
The Process Manager leads one or more chemical operations teams responsible for producing Nalas chemical products. They must identify and analyze unexpected results, make informed decisions, and model adherence to all EHS policies to maintain a safe work environment. They are accountable for developing their team through the Nalas Performance Review Process and report to the Director of Manufacturing Technologies.
This role oversees safe chemical process operations, ensures accurate batch documentation, and maintains compliance with Good Documentation Practices, the Controlled Document Program, and the Quality Manual. The Process Manager drives productivity and safety improvements, supports a culture of mutual respect, and supervises equipment setup, repair, and reconfiguration in alignment with PSM requirements, including MOC and LOTO. They provide clear communication and regular updates to ensure transparency and departmental safety.
Qualifications and skills
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering (3+ years experience) or MS/PhD degree in Chemical Engineering (2 + years experience) with strong emphasis in the related discipline.
Skilled in data analysis and problem-solving techniques necessary to perform scientific/engineering work.
Highly proficient with calculating and reviewing material balances for Nalas processes and products.
Extensive experience in the implementation and operation of chemical process equipment.
Highly skilled at process equipment troubleshooting with the ability to identify, fix, and adequately document process disruptions and changes.
Proficiency operating and training personnel on control software such as LabVIEW and SCADA platforms.
Proficiency and knowledge of continuous and batch chemical operations including kinetics, mixing, heat flow and the associated process safety to design and meet production goals.
Proficient in generating and manipulating data, as well as computer programs such as MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and literature reviews
Experienced in reviewing the available literature, including Nalas generated reports and batch records, to gain a better understanding of historical and current processes/methods.
Technical Contributions
Identifies strategies for process optimization with an eye towards green commercial processes.
Experience in reviewing process safety and process development reports.
Exhibits technical and operational proficiency solving problems of increasing complexity.
Performs chemical engineering analysis including mass and energy balances.
Applies knowledge of unit operations such as reaction kinetics, crystallization, and isolation techniques toward Nalas portfolio of critical chemicals.
Applies solid understanding of variance and sources of experimental error to process data.
Leverages and applies technical literature to solve problems
Prepares detailed schedules and corresponding checklists to ensure project success with respect to safety, quality, schedule, and cost.
Knowledge of waste management, toxicity hazards and SafeBridge classifications
Independently author Operating Procedures and Batch Records.
Provide training, guidance, and mentorship to scientists.
Lab Proficiency
Always operate in a safe and efficient manner and follows Nalas SAF Procedures.
Knowledgeable of waste management, toxicity hazards and SafeBridge classification.
Can complete and train others on complex equipment setups, quickly assembles laboratory equipment to conduct, evaluate and characterize chemical processes.
Adept at maintaining production batch records in a manner which allows others to understand findings from each experiment, including interpretations, conclusions, and path forward for further experimentation
Anticipate potential obstacles to accurate record-keeping, such as time constraints or complex processes, and implement solutions like streamlining procedures or investing in better technology
Articulate the critical role of accurate batch records in product quality, safety, regulatory compliance, and the company's overall success
Customer-Facing Contributions
Periodically presents units of work (slides, reports, etc.) to support/as technical leads, and customer updates.
Participates in customer Site tours.
External Contributions
Provide impact and direction to the project portfolio, including contributing to technical sections of proposals and statements of work.
Project Management
Demonstrate excellent time management, organizational skills.
Encourage teamwork and assess capabilities of team members.
Demonstrate excellent understanding in Nalas billing structures and timeline
Identify and communicate variances in assignments vs actuals.
Responsible for the development and leadership of those directly reporting to them through the Nalas Performance Review Process; Chemical Operators and Engineers.
Schedule regular check-ins and performance reviews focused on both achievements and areas for improvement
Works efficiently and productively in a highly dynamic and multidisciplinary team environment.
