- Ph.D. Graduate Research Assistant in Metabolism and Host-Pathogen Interactions
Description
A Ph.D. graduate research assistant position is available in the Alonso Laboratory at the BioDiscovery Institute and Department of Biological Sciences, University of North Texas (UNT), beginning in Fall 2027.
The project will investigate how the human fungal pathogen Histoplasma capsulatum acquires and utilizes nutrients inside host immune cells. The research combines biochemistry, metabolic pathway analysis, host-pathogen interactions, metabolomics, stable isotope tracing, metabolic flux analysis, and mathematical modeling to understand the metabolic mechanisms that support intracellular pathogen proliferation. Student will receive training in state-of-the-art mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), metabolomics, stable isotope-assisted metabolic flux analysis, computational metabolic modeling, and data analysis.
We are seeking highly motivated student with a strong interest in: Biochemistry and metabolism; Metabolic pathways; Host-pathogen interactions; Mass spectrometry and metabolomics; Quantitative and computational approaches to biology.
Requirements
Eligibility: Due to funding source restrictions, applicants must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents.
Minimum Requirements:
- BS in Biochemistry, Biology, Microbiology, or related field.
- One year of experience working or volunteering in a research lab.
