High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience
Preferred Qualifications
BS degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or equivalent.
Position Summary
The successful candidate will assist in research aimed at publishing results in the area of microbial metabolism and physiology. The individual in this position will be required to acquire, interpret, summarize and report scientific data to the Principal Investigator on a weekly basis.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- The ability to perform independent work is required.
- Previous experience in cloning, polymerase chain reaction ( PCR ) assays, biochemical assays, basic microbiological techniques (aseptic technique, autoclaving media, etc), microbial growth analyses, are required
Physical Demands
- This position demands most of the time dedicated to doing research at the bench.
- Some people do their work standing, others prefer doing it sitting on a stool.
- There is a need to walk around from room to room where supplies and equipment are located

Perform original research in the general area of microbial physiology and metabolism under the direction of the PI. This position requires acquiring and analyzing data, preparation of figures for publications.

Monitoring research supplies and equipment, maintain compliance of the lab with UGA safety regulations (chemical, biological, radiation safety). In addition this position will be responsible for supervising the work of undergraduate laboratory assistants
